The patents, the failures and the rules behind a product idea
For inventors and R&D teams: describe an idea, paste a product link or name a company. Commerce DD reads the closest patents, the complaints buyers leave on rival products and the US rules that apply, then writes one report with every claim linked to its source.
One report answers what an inventor checks before building a prototype
Each run collects its own evidence and labels it, and every sentence in the report points back to the page it rests on.
Patents around the idea
The closest patents and applications from Google Patents, each feature of the idea mapped against them, in-force patents worth an attorney's look, and expired ones anyone may now build on.
Where rival products fail
Complaints from the top reviews of the ten to twenty closest Amazon products, set beside CPSC recalls and FDA adverse-event reports, grouped into the failures a new design should answer.
The US rules that apply
The sections of the Code of Federal Regulations in force today that match the product, and whether CPSC, FDA or FCC rules are likely to reach it.
What the market already prices
Prices, ratings and best-seller ranks of the products a buyer would compare yours against, recorded each time a run reads them.
Five public sources, read fresh or from a shared cache of earlier runs
A page another run already read is reused while it is fresh, so a second report on a crowded category costs less and finishes sooner. What you type is never shared.
| Source | What a run reads | Freshness |
|---|---|---|
| Google Patents | Search results, then the full record of the closest patents: independent claims, legal status, expected expiry, assignee and classification. | Read again after 30 days |
| Amazon, signed out | The closest products with price, rating and rank, plus the top reviews and the summary Amazon shows a visitor who is not signed in. | Read again after 7 days |
| CPSC recalls | Recalls that name the product type, with the hazard, the injuries reported and the remedy, from the SaferProducts.gov recall API. | Read again after 24 hours |
| openFDA | Device adverse events, food, supplement and cosmetic adverse events, and enforcement reports, when the product falls under FDA. | Read again after 24 hours |
| eCFR | Sections of the Code of Federal Regulations in force today that match the product. | Read again after 7 days |
What a report will not tell you
- Patent findings are search results, not a legal opinion. A patent flagged for review goes to a patent attorney, and nothing is ever marked as cleared.
- Amazon shows about ten top reviews per product to someone who is not signed in. Reports read those across many rival products, so they lean toward the most-voted reviews.
- US rules come first. Other markets follow where their sources can be read without an account.
- Claude models write the report from the evidence that run collected, and a sentence with no source behind it is left out.
